Teams Canada and Norway were unbeatable in tonight’s World Wheelchairs.
Canada scored three in the first end, one in the third end, and stole another four points over the fourth and fifth ends. They defeated Czech Republic with a final score of 8-2.
Norway started their game against Denmark with two points, followed by another two in the third end, and steals of one, three and one more in the final three ends. The final score was 9-1 in their favour.
Keep following the action this week to see if these teams can maintain their momentum or if other teams will come from behind!
Here are your halftime results of the second session of the #WWhCC2023

The game on Sheet C is definitely one to watch tonight!
After the first two ends, it looked like Japan might run away with the game, taking two points in the first end and a steal in the second end. BUT, Italy brought their A-game in the third end and scored FIVE to take a two-point lead.
Who will ultimately take the W? Check back to find out!
The mixed doubles teams from Poland and Finland were sporting cheerful yellow uniforms at this afternoon’s session. There may not have been much sunshine outside the arena, but there was definitely sunshine inside.
Team England is having fun here in Richmond! Even in the middle of a game, teammates Rosemary Lenton and Stewart Pimblett are all smiles.
As the second session of the World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles comes to a close, the power of the power play is becoming evident.
For those who don’t know, in mixed doubles, each team can use one power play per game, and they must have the hammer to do so. With the power play, the starting stones are placed on either the left or right side of the sheet, rather than on the centre line. This leaves the centre open for the team with hammer, and is usually implemented when a team is trying to score a big end.
Here in Richmond, the power play is coming in handy.
Team Norway used their power play in the fifth end to score two against Poland.
Team Korea used theirs in the sixth end to score FOUR against Canada. The Canadians responded with a score of three in the following end using their power play.
Team England and Team Italy also used their power plays back-to-back to score two and one point respectively.
Believe it or not, this session is halfway done! Mixed doubles games really fly by.
After four, England is up 4-2 over Italy.
Hungary is leading Scotland 6-2.
Canada is slightly ahead of the Koreans with a 3-2 lead.
United States is in the lead after a steal of two, going 3-2 over Finland.
Poland is battling hard, holding a 7-2 advantage over Norway.
As for the China v Estonia game, if you guessed Estonia would make a comeback, you were right! The Estonian team of Katlin Riidebach and Mait Matas scored a huge three points in the fourth end to close the gap in the score. China now lead 7-4.
China came to play this afternoon.
Partners Meng Wang and Jianxin Chen made every shot count in the first end, scoring a whopping FIVE points against their opponents from Estonia.
Will they maintain their lead or will Estonia make a comeback?
The mixed doubles teams are back for session two of the World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles Curling Championships!
Team England is off to a very strong start, scoring THREE in the first end! Their opponent Italy is putting up a fight though, currently sitting one and hoping to sink another.
One point is all that separates the opponents in the Norway v Poland, United States v Finland and Canada v Korea games respectively.
In the game between China and Estonia, both teams are yet to get on the board, but surely that won’t be the case for long!
Team Japan was all smiles after pulling off a win in the first session of the World Wheelchairs. Skip, Takashi Sakataya shared his sentiments:
“It’s just the beginning, but since this is our first world championship, we are really happy to win the opening game. There’s still a lot that we need to fix moving forward, but we are happy with this start.”
Sheet F saw major excitement in this first session of the World Wheelchair Curling Championship, with team Canada stealing one in the eighth end to take the game to an extra end.
Unfortunately for Canada, even a precise draw from fourth, Jon Thurston, wasn’t enough to prevent China’s Haitao Wang from making a hit for the win.
After the first four ends of play, the scores are as follows:
Denmark is holding a 6-2 lead over Sweden.
Korea and Scotland are tied at 3-3.
Norway is leading United States 5-3.
Japan is maintaining a 5-2 lead over Czech Republic.
China has 4 points over Canada’s 2.
Latvia is dominating over Italy with a 6-1 lead.
Anything can happen in the last half of the session!
So we don’t get confused….
World Wheelchair Mixed Doubles = two player team, one male, one female World Wheelchair = four player team, with a minimum of one player from each gender on the team
With an exciting finish where Switzerland stole the win against Slovakia in an extra, we have our first session results!
